Bee Squad Outreach

Gifts to the Bee Squad are used to support honey bee and native bee education and outreach work for beekeepers and the public. From helping beekeepers keep bees healthy to reaching communities that are inspired to support bees, Bee Squad team members work hard to connect with people who are passionate about pollinators. Examples of how your dollars are put to work:

  • Educating beekeepers to help them manage healthy bees
  • Engaging artists to translate bee health science for the public
  • Supporting Veterans by offering free beekeeping instruction at the MSP Airport Apiary and in Rochester

Ongoing initiatives to help farmers, beekeepers, and the public to plant pollinator habitat

Spivak Bee Innovation Fund

Marla Spivak

Gifts to the Spivak Lab Innovation Fund sustain bee health work in the University of Minnesota's Department of Entomology. Donations will support the highest priorities of bee-related research, student mentoring, and education. Examples of how your dollars are put to work:

  • Honey bee research ranging from basic studies on molecular and behavioral mechanisms of social behaviors to applied studies on bee breeding and management
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral research associates, and technicians
  • Classroom teaching to students, beekeepers and the public

This student supporting fund was founded in honor of Dr. Basil Furgala, UMN Bee Lab Professor from 1967-1992.  Gifts to this fund are used to support students who are specializing in honey bees (apiculture).
