Ways you can make a planned gift to the University of Minnesota Bee Research Lab

Planned giving is about finding smart ways for you to make larger gifts than you imagined possible, and to do it in ways that best fit your needs and provide important support to the Bee Research Lab.

There are many ways you can make a planned gift:

  • Will bequests (percentage or amount) - Including the Bee Research Lab as a beneficiary in your will or living trust is a meaningful way to ensure that your support for the Lab will continue.
  • Beneficiary designations of retirement accounts and life insurance policies - If you are over age 70 1/2, you can make a gift from your IRA without incurring income tax on the withdrawal. If you leave your retirement assets to the Bee Research Lab, they pass along tax-free.
  • Make a gift and receive income - Several planned gift options provide you or others with income for life and can allow the remaining assets to benefit the Bee Research Lab. These gifts can also provide significant tax benefits, especially when funded with appreciated assets.
